This book is a summary of some geometric projects carried out by first-year students in the courses of Laboratory of Geometry and Form I and II of the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra.
The courses Laboratory of Geometry and Form I and II, taught during the academic year 2019-2020, the fruits of which we collect here, was prepared for months, after a conversation I had about the course and its future with the then coordinator of 1st year of Architecture and the director of the department of Theory, Projects and Urbanism, in which it is framed the same.
Looking for a change, we created a work team characterized by its efficiency. Based on the thesis of Fernando Alonso and with the help of Antonio Cidoncha we had the purpose of adapting the teaching of geometry and architectural drawing to the needs of the profession today and at the same time giving the students tools that would allow them to project without geometric constraints. The approach contrasted with the way of teaching this subject traditionallyin the School, although this contrast is apparent, since the objectives to be achieved are maintained, adding some more specific or appropriate to the current moment. The main changes introduced were two. The first was the decision to order the teaching of Geometry according to the complexity of the element, instead of according to the systems of representation. Starting from the most basic; the point, going through all the 2D geometries, until reaching the three-dimensional ones and finishing the course with complex geometries.
This route has been possible thanks to the implementation of working with the computer, choosing the Rhinoceros program to do it. The second change has been the introduction of creativity in learning, so that the knowledge learned is applied by the student every week and they can strengthen them. The teaching of the course combines theory, practice and creative project. Throughout the week the students work on a project in which they apply the geometric elements of the week with a high degree of creativity. The relationship between students and teachers is very close, learning through closeness and constructive criticism of their projects. The most common mistakes are reviewed in class and the most outstanding projects are exhibited weekly in different parts of the School. We want to collect here a small sample of the results of each of the projects carried out. The pictures speak for themselves and tell us the history of the course.

Este libro es un resumen de algunos proyectos geométricos realizados por los alumnos de primer año en las asignaturas del Laboratorio de Geometría y Forma I y II de la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Navarra.
El curso de Laboratorio de Geometría y Forma I y II impartido durante el año académico 2019-2020. cuyos frutos aquí recogemos, lo preparamos durante meses, después de una conversación que tuve acerca de la asignatura y su futuro con los entonces coordinador de 1º de Arquitectura y director del departamento de Teoría, Proyectos y Urbanismo, en el que se encuadra la misma. Buscando un cambio, creamos un equipo de trabajo caracterizado por su eficiencia. Teniendo como base la tesis de Fernando Alonso y con la ayuda de Antonio Cidoncha teníamos el propósito de adecuar la docencia de la geometría y el dibujo arquitectónico a las necesidades de la profesión hoy en día y a la vez dar al alumno herramientas que le permitieran proyectar sin tener ninguna restricción geométrica. El planteamiento contrastaba con la forma de impartir esta asignatura tradicionalmente en la Escuela, aunque dicho contraste es aparente, ya que se mantienen los objetivos a conseguir, añadiendo algunos más específicos o adecuados al momento actual.
Los cambios principales fueron dos. El primero fue la decisión de ordenar la enseñanza de la Geometría según la complejidad del elemento, en vez de según los sistemas de representación. Partiendo desde lo más básico; el punto, pasando por todas las geometrías planas, hasta llegar a las tridimensionales y acabar el curso con geometrías complejas. Se ha podido hacer este recorrido gracias a la implantación del trabajo con el ordenador, escogiendo el programa Rhinoceros para hacerlo. El segundo cambio ha sido la introducción de la creatividad en el aprendizaje, de manera que los conocimientos aprendidos sean aplicados por el alumno cada semana y así pueda afianzarlos.
En la docencia de la asignatura se combina la teoría, la práctica dirigida y el proyecto creativo. Culmina con un proyecto en el que aplican con un alto grado de creatividad los elementos geométricos de la semana. La relación entre alumnos y profesores es muy estrecha, aprendiendo a través de la cercanía y la crítica constructiva de sus proyectos. Se repasan en clase los errores mas comunes y se exponen semanalmente en diferentes lugares de la Escuela los proyectos más destacados.
Queremos recoger aquí una pequeña muestra de los resultados de cada uno de los proyectos realizados. Las propias láminas hablan por sí mismas y nos cuentan la historia del recorrido de este curso.
